Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back was in UK cinemas earlier this year and was released on DVD this week so I decided to watch it and I’m actually surprised that this was released in the cinemas. Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back doesn’t have anything at all to show, it didn’t even have any potential and Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back should actually be false advertising because there’s only one chimp who goes to space and Zartog doesn’t do much ‘striking back’. So the movie takes place after Space Chimps and Comet is promised he’d be on the next space mission to visit a planet so he can see his friend Kilowatt. However, when Comet gets let down, he climbs into the rocket and takes off to the planet on his own so he can see his friend. However, back on Earth, Zartog is back and threatens to make the world disappear and so Comet and Kilowatt must return to Earth before it’s too late. Seriously? This is a movie? This had no thought or imagination but was more like an excuse to make a 3D movie. I can’t believe it was actually released in the cinemas and is released on DVD, I find it so hard to believe but unfortunately it’s true. I can name loads of movies that would be better than this and would have the children more entertained, Marmaduke being one of them and I didn’t even give a positive review for it. The story is non-existent and stretched to one hour and ten minutes and should have been a lot less considering it was full of scenes that weren’t important. This just didn’t feel like a movie, but more like an episode that was destined to be on television. There were unnecessary parts in the movie that could have very easily been cut and most of them were ‘jokes’ and the ‘funny’ parts of the movie. One example being what felt like a five-minute scene of nothing but one scientist break-dancing because he thinks an alien would understand them more than speaking in English. Where do they come up with this stuff?

The story, even though it was bad, wasn’t the worst thing about the movie, it was actually the animation. Everything about the animation is so poor, especially now we’re living in the times where we see stunning animation such as Toy Story 3 and Up. The animation felt like somebody at home made it and rushed it without putting any thought or love into the movie whatsoever, everything was blocky and horrible from the background to the characters. Even when the chimps were talking, their mouths weren’t moving in time with the voices and you kept on thinking that the sound was out of sync. I expect better considering this was actually a cinema release but I wouldn’t do so much if it was straight-to-DVD. Heck, even if it was straight-to-DVD, I would expect much better than this poor effort. The people involved with this movie felt like they’ve rushed through it all without planning it, there was actually no plot or any preparations to be seen. It just looked like a bunch of random things happening. The runtime is 80 minutes and even that felt too long for this movie. If I were to cut out all of the unnecessary scenes, the movie would probably be around fifty to sixty minutes.

I have seen a lot of rubbish and boring movies in my lifetime, I’ve even reviewed quite a few of them (Disaster Movie springs to mind straight away) but this definitely tops them all. I never thought I’d ever say this in my entire life but I would actually rather watch Epic Movie or Disaster Movie again than even considering to watch Space Chimps 2: Zartog Strikes Back. As I have said before, this was destined to be on television. Children of five will probably enjoy this but everybody else might not, I recommend you watch any movie but this, this is officially the worst movie I have ever seen at the moment.
